The pumps used for the transfer of liquid, viscous or fluids containing particles in their content and needed in many areas of the industry are divided into many different models. Lobe pumps have similar features with gear pumps. However, there are great differences in terms of structural features and the type of fluid used together. Inside the pump, there are two rotary piston / rotors called lobes, which are similar to a gears in terms of structure and usually have two or three tips. In some applications, the use of a rotor with a butterfly design is also seen. If we look at the working principle of the lobe pump in items;

• By running the pump, we move the lobes, creating an expanding volume between the lobes and the pump body. Thus, the liquid to be pumped fills this space.

• As a result of the movement of the lobes, the liquid moves from the pump inlet to the outlet without passing through the lobes. In the meantime, lobes contact with each other is prevented with the correct positioning of the lobes and the correct timing.

• The liquid to be pumped is directed to the pump outlet with lobe movements and separated from the pump.

One of its most important features is that the particle sizes in the liquid to be pumped can be much larger than other pump applications. It is possible to transfer coarse-grained food products such as cherries, olives, slurry, jam, honey and paste-like fluids with high viscosity using lobe pumps without damaging the product. • The inlet and outlet directions of the lobe pumps, which offer movement in both directions, can be changed according to preference.

• Lobe pumps can be positioned vertically or horizontally, depending on the place and purpose of use. To exemplify in another way, the entrance and exit directions may be on the sides or at the top and bottom.

• Lobe pumps with cast steel body can also be manufactured in stainless steel for applications requiring high hygiene.

• It is possible to obtain smooth, steady and non-pulsed flow with lobe pumps.

• By controlling the electric motor with a frequency inverter, the flow rate can be increased or decreased, in other words, performance and high precision dosing can be made.

• In terms of spare parts, lobe pumps are cheap and easily supplied.

• It can be easily adapted to demanding process conditions with different materials and accessories.

• Lobe pumps do not have parts in contact with each other during operation like gear pumps, so they minimize wear problems and extend the life of the pump.
