Drum Pumps
Businesses usually buy many chemical products that they use in their environments such as factories or workshops, usually with large barrels, drums or ton containers of IBC tanks. These chemicals can be oil, paint, acid, caustic, solvent, additives, fuel oil etc. The purchased fluids are used when needed and stored in storage areas after use. Since they are not used all at once, they are served with drum pumps during the application.
Under normal conditions, chemical fluids taken from the drum directly or by tipping the drum can pose a danger both to the environment and to the employees. In this regard, drum pumps are one of the most effective solutions for efficient and safe use of chemicals. Thus, there is no waste.
Drum Pump Operation and Working Principle
Although there are many different types of drum pumps, we can say that they consist of two different components in general. These are the pump tube and the pump body, including the motor. The pipe immersed in the barrel provides the transmission of the fluid to the pump body positioned on the barrel. The impeller in the body rotates with the force it receives from the motor and creates a vacuum at the inlet part of the pump pipe. Thanks to this vacuum, the fluid in the barrel is drawn and directed to the pump outlet.

Drum pumps differ according to the fluid properties (viscosity, temperature, etc.), capacity requirement and material properties. For this reason, pump selection is very important for a healthy, hygienic and safe application. For example, if a pump is chosen for food processing, it is strongly recommended to use a stainless drum pump. In addition, if the fluid to be used is flammable, explosive or corrosive, the pump should be chosen with an ex-proof electric or air motor, and the issue of sealing and material compatibility for drum pump becomes important.
We can say that drum pumps with a wide range of applications are suitable for low viscosity fluids such as water or high viscosity fluids such as honey and jam. At this point, accurate determination of the viscosity value is of great importance. In addition, the working pressure and the flow rate must be determined to suit the needs.

In addition to the specified body materials, the shaft material in the pump tube is an important component to be considered in the selection.
